The Ultimate Guide to Deep Cleaning Your Kitchen

Fresh Nest TeamApril 3, 20268 min read

The kitchen is the heart of every home, but it is also where grease, food particles, and bacteria accumulate the fastest. A thorough deep clean not only makes your kitchen look amazing but also creates a healthier environment for cooking and gathering with loved ones.

Our professional cleaning team at Fresh Nest deep cleans kitchens across Los Angeles every day. Here is the exact process we follow to deliver spotless results every time.

Start from the Top Down

Always begin with the highest surfaces and work your way down. Start by dusting the top of cabinets, light fixtures, and range hoods. Gravity will pull loose debris downward, so you will clean the lower surfaces last without having to redo any work.

Use a damp microfiber cloth for cabinet tops where grease tends to build up. For ceiling fans and light fixtures, a dry duster works best to prevent dripping.

Tackle the Oven and Stovetop

Remove oven racks and soak them in hot, soapy water for at least 30 minutes. Meanwhile, apply a paste of baking soda and water to the inside of the oven and let it sit. For the stovetop, remove burner grates and knobs, soak them separately, and wipe down the surface with a degreasing solution.

After soaking, scrub oven racks with a stiff brush, rinse, and dry completely before replacing. Spray the oven interior with vinegar to react with the baking soda paste, then wipe everything clean.

Deep Clean the Refrigerator

Empty your fridge completely and remove all shelves and drawers. Wash them with warm soapy water in the sink. Wipe down the interior walls with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in a quart of warm water. This cleans and deodorizes simultaneously.

Check expiration dates as you reload. Organize items by category and place older items in front to reduce food waste.

Sanitize Countertops and Backsplash

Clear everything off your countertops. Wipe them down with an appropriate cleaner for your surface type, whether granite, quartz, marble, or laminate. For the backsplash, use a soft brush or old toothbrush to scrub grout lines where grime loves to hide.

Do Not Forget the Sink and Disposal

Your kitchen sink can harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat. Scrub it thoroughly with baking soda, then sanitize with a diluted vinegar spray. For garbage disposals, drop in ice cubes and citrus peels, then run the disposal to clean the blades and eliminate odors.

Clean Small Appliances

Wipe down your toaster, coffee maker, blender, and microwave. Run a cycle of equal parts water and vinegar through your coffee maker to descale it. Clean the microwave by heating a bowl of water with lemon slices for two minutes, then wipe away loosened grime easily.

Finish with the Floors

Sweep or vacuum first to remove loose debris, then mop with a floor-appropriate cleaner. Pay extra attention to corners and under the edges of cabinets where crumbs accumulate. For tile floors, a steam mop is excellent for sanitizing grout lines.

A professional deep clean from Fresh Nest covers all of these areas and more, leaving your kitchen not just clean but truly refreshed.
